International Christian Mission 2007 Latest : Read about our latest curriculum. New opportunities for graduates. Two new books soon to be released.

UPDATE
July 16th, 2007

Dear Saints:

“We will not hide these truths from our children but will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord. We will tell of his power and the mighty miracles he did.” Psalm 78:4 (New Living Translation). The Israelites were rebellious and unfaithful to God. They forgot the miracles that the Lord had done for them. They made demands on Him, they lied to Him and turned away from Him even though He had done great works on their behalf. To help each generation to obey God and set its hope on Him, it is important to keep children from making the same mistakes as their ancestors. This is an injunction from God and leaves no option to us. What then are we doing to pass on to our generation God's goodness? Through ICM, our mission is to teach faithful men that they can in turn teach others.

ICM Inc. is currently riding on an exciting season of growth and development that God has abundantly released to us. Praise His Name! In the last update, I shared with you some of these exciting 21st century ‘acts of the Holy Spirit’ through ICM country directors and ministry teams across Asia. There is so much more to share but before doing so, let me introduce two laborers that the Lord has added to His harvest field through ICM Inc.

An Addition to ICM’s Board of Advisors: Dr. Jerry Horner

Dr. Jerry Horner has kindly accepted our invitation to join the advisory board of ICM Inc. and our newly-created Institute of Biblical Studies. Dr. Jerry Horner He brings to ICM Inc. a wealth of experience, expertise and wisdom that is outstanding, unusual and on demand all over the world. Dr. Jerry Horner became a pastor at the age of 18 and had a distinguished career of more than 40 years as professor, department chairman, dean, or president of such renowned institutions as Oral Roberts University, Regent University, south West Baptist University, Bethesda Christian University and England’s Peniel College of Higher Education. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Union University and South Western Baptist Theological Seminary. He also acquired post-doctoral studies in England at Manchester University and Cambridge University.

Dr. Horner has authored many books and articles in theological and educational journals, commentaries and other publications. He is the New Testament editor of the internationally acclaimed ‘Spirit filled Bible’. He is listed in numerous biographical publications including Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Religion and Who’s Who in American Education. He is a recipient of the prestigious Christian Statesman of the Year Award presented in 1999 by the International Third World Leaders’ Association.

Our illustrious Advisor has a global ministry spanning more than 100 countries on six continents and many islands where he preaches and teaches in churches, conventions, conferences, seminars and similar meetings. He was a weekly bible teacher for several years on national radio and television programs both in the USA and abroad. He is the founder and director of New Creation Ministries, an organization that provides discipleship and leadership training for indigenous workers in mission areas throughout the world.

I am deeply honored to have known Dr. Horner personally and worked with him during July 5th to August 6th 1993, when ICM and Regent University created an Institute of Missiology and held classes for about 40 students in Singapore. These students were senior pastors and leaders from mainline churches. Jerry was then the Dean of the School of Divinity at Regent University.

Executive Assistant to the President: Rev. Dr. Noah Pashapa

Rev. Dr. Noah Pashapa has joined ICM as Executive Assistant to the President. Rev. Dr. Noah Pashapa He brings with him a wealth of pastoral experience, academic expertise as well as a critical and international dimension to ICM. He is a holder of a Diploma in Theology, a B.A. in Theology and Pastoral Ministry, an M.A. in Religious Studies and PhD in Biblical Studies both from the University of Zimbabwe. He pastored Life and Liberty Ministries/Hatfield Baptist Church (which grew to a cluster of five local churches), in Harare Zimbabwe between 1990 and 2005. He lectured in the University of Zimbabwe for nine years and held positions on a number of national and international boards. Irene, his wife of 25 years, is his partner in ministry as they currently operate out of Singapore pursuing a new season of ministry reaching the nations for Christ, building New Testament type churches and leaders and making radical disciples. She has been in full time Christian service with Prison Fellowship International for over 14 years. Their daughter Shumirai-Ishe (Serve the Lord), a strong committed Christian, graduated from Hull University in England with a Law degree, serves God with Prison Fellowship England and Wales. Their son Mandla-e-Nkosi (Power of the Lord), a strong committed Christian, finishes high school in November 2007 and will enter university in January 2008.

Short Term Missions

As I indicated in the last update, we take pleasure in sharing with you, our partners, the marvelous things God accomplished through the Short Term Missions (STM) and the Church Planting Institute (CPI) leaders’ training seminars that ICM ministry team members organized and coordinated during 2006. You have stood with us, prayed with us and given of your time, money and efforts to enable ICM to roll out these ministry programs in a way that achieves productive results. There is more!

A short-term mission (STM) conducted at a place called Kg Bertam in the Cameroon Highlands during the 18th-19th March saw many local villagers experience the Lord’s healing through the ministry of medical doctors who were part of this ICM team. This was a mission to demonstrate the good news about Jesus Christ who died for their salvation on the cross. Many who could otherwise not receive health care services due to distance, poor road network or poor public transport service were excited to be able to see a doctor in their own vicinity. Many for whom health care services remained unaffordable due to the high costs experienced God’s wonderful love for them in this provision of free medical care and treatment over these two days. Many who for years had gone without the slightest idea of their health status were able to access medical check ups. Only the love of Jesus could have sustained and inspired the medical team to work with little or no rest at all while the two short days lasted.

The short-term mission (STM) mission conducted in Kota Cane, Sumatra, from the 8th to the 16th of April was designed to proclaim the gospel to the many in this predominantly Muslim country who have not yet heard. Setting up the stage from which the gospel singing and preaching was to be conducted generated a lot of interest and soon people began to mill around. Some came to check this activity out of curiosity and others out of excitement at the possibility of attending ‘free of charge’ an entertaining event at the little village church.

More than 28 adults and 30 youth and children came forward to confess Jesus as Lord and Savior for the first time. Many more came to receive prayer for healing and deliverance. Such prayer and healing ministry is needed within such communities who live with the reality of the powers of demonic forces on a day-to-day basis. The power of the Lord came down in a special way and many were ministered to powerfully and deeply.

Our short-term missions (STM) are at times organized in conjunction with the church-planting institute and sometimes separately. The church-planting institute (CPI) program focuses on the training and equipping of local leaders for ongoing church planting activities and the training and equipping of leaders. (2 Tim 2:2)

Such a church planting institute (CPI) program conducted in Tg Balai prison in North Sumatra from the 4th to the 12th of March saw 18 inmates graduate after completing module one. By the time a trainee achieves this, he/she would have covered biblical teaching on who Jesus Christ is, salvation, the authority of the bible and other basic biblical doctrines that are essential to experiencing personal faith and being motivated and equipped to share that faith effectively. The donations received from you make the printing, production and distribution of training materials to these inmates possible. In prisons such as this one, these ICM training materials often become the only ‘educational’ and self-improvement opportunity available to inmates. There was so much gratitude and jubilation expressed by these inmates not only for having been introduced to Christ while in prison but also for being discipled and enlisted in the ongoing CPI training program that will equip them to be leaders in the communities to which they will return after serving their terms. Through this training program these inmates can look forward to productive re-integration back into their communities both as reformed followers of Christ and as trained leaders for the local church. It is no wonder that their friends and relatives were overjoyed at the prospect that these ‘incarcerated’ members from the community can return as trained and equipped productive members of the community.

CPI Graduation
On July 15th 2006 the ICM chairman for Malaysia, Brother Edwin Marsden presided over the graduation of 11 CPI trainees in Ulu Groh Gopeng. The training, which was conducted at Gereia Shalom church, involved leaders drawn from local churches in the area. The 11 graduates will be expected to actively get involved in church planting activities and or the training of other leaders under the tutorship of local ICM trainers who are in turn given support services from the ICM regional service providers. The highlight of this CPI graduation was the 70 year old grandmother who completed module one training and wants to move on to module two training.

All in all we at ICM give God the glory for these opportunities to partner with churches and mission agencies in training and equipping rural local church leaders so that they in turn teach and train others. Let us continue to do our part in ensuring that the gospel of the kingdom of god is preached to every people group and so hasten the second coming of Christ.

Your partnership is key to the achievement of all these 21st century acts of the Holy Spirit through ICM. Without your support in prayer, finances and practical involvement, we would not have achieved a fraction of what has been done. Glory to God!!
